Pune, 10 July 2025: In a landmark decision aimed at resolving the long-standing infrastructure and traffic challenges of Hinjawadi, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the formation of a “Single Point Authority” that will oversee and coordinate all government agencies involved in the area’s development.
This key decision follows a high-level meeting at Vidhan Bhavan, initiated by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, with active participation from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, representatives from the IT Forum, housing society federations, and senior government officials.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured stakeholders that the much-awaited Hinjawadi Metro will be completed by December 2025. The Metro project, once operational, is expected to significantly ease the daily commute for over five lakh professionals and residents who travel in and out of Hinjawadi, one of India’s largest IT parks.
Addressing years of frustration due to traffic congestion, delayed infrastructure works, and poor inter-agency coordination, the government has pledged swift and focused action. The newly established Single Point Authority will serve as the central body to ensure seamless coordination between agencies such as PMRDA, MIDC, Metro Authority, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, and NHAI.
In addition to this, several other measures were discussed to ease congestion and improve infrastructure. These include the expansion of the crucial Laxmi Chowk bridge to six lanes, expediting land acquisition and road widening projects, and leveraging modern technology to manage traffic more effectively. The Metro Authority has also been tasked with developing adequate parking facilities in the area.
Moreover, PMRDA has been directed to complete Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) and land acquisition processes within a month. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will immediately begin pending highway projects and underpass works at key junctions including Punawale, Tathawade, and Bhumkar Chowk.
This comprehensive plan marks a turning point for Hinjawadi’s development and promises a more organized, commuter-friendly future for one of Maharashtra’s most vital economic zones.
