Pune, 18 June 2025: In a significant move, the Shivajinagar police have booked Omkar Kadam, president of the BJP’s Kamgar Aghadi (Labour Alliance) unit in Pune, and seven others for allegedly harassing and stalking a woman medical officer working with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The FIR was registered on Tuesday under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including molestation, stalking, criminal intimidation, and unlawful assembly.
According to the complaint, Kadam would repeatedly visit the officer’s workplace between January and June 2025, verbally abuse her, make insulting comments in front of staff, and record videos without her consent. Despite approaching the PMC’s health department and internal committee, the victim reportedly received an unsatisfactory response, prompting her to reach out to the Women’s Commission and local police.
The PMC administration, meanwhile, had earlier taken administrative action by banning Omkar Kadam and his aide Akshay Kamble from entering any civic offices. PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram emphasized that safeguarding employees from harassment is the civic body’s primary responsibility and instructed security to lodge police complaints if the banned individuals attempt to enter PMC premises.
The case has drawn widespread public attention and criticism over the initial inaction by the Pune Police, with concerns being raised about possible political interference. However, following mounting pressure, the Shivajinagar police registered the case under sections related to stalking, insulting a woman’s modesty, wrongful restraint, unlawful assembly, and criminal intimidation.
In his defense, Kadam claimed the allegations were fabricated and intended to retaliate against corruption accusations he had made. Meanwhile, Pune city BJP chief Dheeraj Ghate has sought an explanation from Kadam regarding the serious charges. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have recorded the victim’s detailed statement.
