Pune, 9th June 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis yesterday inaugurated the newly constructed administrative building of the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) in Aundh, Pune.
Built on the principles of eco-friendliness, Super Energy Conservation Building Code (Super ECBC), and the Net Zero concept, the building stands as a benchmark for sustainable development and clean energy infrastructure in the state.
Speaking at the event, CM Fadnavis lauded MEDA for constructing a modern, well-equipped, and environmentally responsible facility. “This building reflects our commitment to decarbonization and clean energy. It sets a new standard in green building practices,” he said.
Highlighting the agency’s achievements, the Chief Minister noted that Maharashtra has emerged as a leader in the country in the field of solar energy and distributed power generation.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme, the state has installed five lakh solar pumps, more than the combined total of all other states.
Looking ahead, CM Fadnavis outlined two key objectives for MEDA:
Solarization of all government offices, starting with consumers using up to 100 units of electricity.
Development of a state-specific rooftop solar scheme, modeled after the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, to eventually cover households consuming up to 300 units of electricity.
He also said that, “A deal has been signed with a Russian government company for thorium-based energy generation. If successfully implemented, this will be a game changer for India.”
The Chief Minister reiterated Maharashtra’s alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national goal of generating 50% of electricity from non-conventional sources by 2030.
He expressed confidence that Maharashtra would surpass this target and achieve 52% non-conventional energy generation by the end of the decade.
