Pune, 6th October 2024: On Sunday, a shocking traffic incident took place near the busy Balgandharva Rangmandir area in Pune. A car driver, allegedly under the influence, collided with a motorcycle and then proceeded to drive onto a road divider.

The Deccan Police have identified the suspect as 25-year-old Aniket Ramakant Sontakke, a Chakan resident from Dharashiv district, who was in Pune for educational purposes. The incident took place at approximately 7 p.m. near the Vitthal Ramji Shinde Bridge, located between the Omkareshwar temple and Balgandharva Rangmandir, during a time of heavy traffic.

According to the police, Sontakke was driving at high speed when he initially collided with a two-wheeler near Balgandharva Rangmandir. The motorcyclist sustained only minor injuries and decided against filing a complaint, mentioning that the damage was negligible. Shortly after, Sontakke lost control and crashed his car into the divider, resulting in considerable damage to his vehicle.

In the course of their investigation, the police found that Sontakke lacked a valid driver's license. He has been charged with driving under the influence, and the Deccan Police Station is continuing the investigation.
