Pune, 4th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 10 hotels and restaurants in the Pune division, including six establishments in Pune city, after finding unhygienic conditions, expired food items and violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act during a three-day inspection drive.
The special inspection campaign was conducted from July 1 to 3 across Pune, Satara and Sangli districts. Officials inspected 70 hotels and restaurants to assess compliance with food safety regulations. Several establishments were found violating mandatory hygiene standards, while inspectors also seized expired food stock at some locations.

According to the FDA, the inspections revealed poor sanitation, non-compliance with food safety norms and the storage of expired food products. The department said such violations can pose serious health risks to consumers, making strict enforcement necessary.
Officials added that similar inspection drives will continue across the region to ensure that food businesses maintain the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
FDA Joint Commissioner (Food), Pune Division, Digambar Bhogawade, said the department will continue taking strict action against establishments that fail to maintain hygiene and food safety standards.
He urged hotel and restaurant owners to provide customers with free and safe drinking water, use quality food ingredients, avoid reusing cooking oil, operate only with valid licences and ensure that menu cards do not contain misleading information.
He also appealed to consumers to report complaints regarding food quality, hygiene or other food safety issues on the FDA's toll-free helpline 1800-222-365, enabling authorities to take timely action against violators.
