Pune, 26 June 2025: Considering the increasing number of cybercrime cases in the city, a proposal to set up five additional cyber police stations has been sent to the Director General of Police. Along with the new units, a demand for infrastructure and additional police personnel has also been made, said Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
Currently, the city has one cyber police station located at the Shivajinagar police headquarters. This station receives about 100 to 150 complaints daily. With the growing instances of online fraud and scams, the need for more cyber police stations has become essential. Hence, the proposal for new stations includes requirements for both personnel and necessary facilities.
In addition, Pune Police recently established seven new police stations. Rural police stations like Lonikand and Loni Kalbhor have now been brought under Pune city police. Taking into account the city’s expansion and inclusion of new police stations, a proposal was made to provide 1,600 additional police personnel. Out of these, 800 have been allotted, and a fresh request has been made to assign 1,000 more.
Currently, the Pune Police Department is divided into five zones. A proposal has also been submitted to the Home Department to create a sixth police zone to improve law enforcement management as the city continues to grow.
