Pune, 25 June 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has demolished 24 buildings constructed illegally within the 900-meter restricted bomb dump area of the Air Force in the newly added Lohegaon limits. Around 48,000 square feet of unauthorized construction has been removed with this action.

The Lohegaon airport is a crucial defense facility, and the central government has strict regulations prohibiting construction in its surrounding areas. To implement these norms, the PMC began a survey through the District Collector’s office.

While the issue was already under public attention, PMC carried out a major demolition drive in the buffer zone, targeting ongoing unauthorized constructions. Notices had been issued to 24 individuals, and on Tuesday (June 24), the demolition was executed using JCB machines and jaw cutters.

Assistant Municipal Engineer Irfan Shaikh said that residents had constructed buildings within the 100-meter prohibited area near the Air Force boundary wall and in agricultural zones. The action resulted in significant losses for those who had recently built structures.
