Pune, 11 July 2025: A shocking incident has surfaced at Pune’s beloved Goodluck Café, a heritage eatery located on Fergusson College Road and renowned for its signature bun maska and Irani chai. The incident came to light when Akash Jalgi visited the café with his wife. While eating the bun maska, Jalgi bit into something unusually hard. Initially assuming it to be a piece of ice, he was horrified to discover it was, in fact, broken glass. Jalgi immediately reported the issue to the café staff, following which the owner apologized and waived off the bill.

However, Jalgi emphasized that the situation could have taken a dangerous turn had he or his wife unknowingly swallowed the glass. Concerned about public safety and the potential risk to other customers, he promptly filed an official complaint with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) via their online portal.

In its defense, the café management claimed that the bun maska is outsourced and that the issue has been raised with the supplier. While the café acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, this explanation has drawn widespread criticism from patrons and the public. Many feel that blaming a third-party supplier is an attempt to shift responsibility instead of addressing internal lapses in quality control.

The FDA is now expected to investigate the matter thoroughly. Meanwhile, the incident has left a bitter aftertaste among loyal customers of Goodluck Café, which has long been considered a culinary institution in Pune. This episode has also triggered a broader conversation about the importance of hygiene, food safety, and accountability in well-established food outlets.
