Pune, 19th October 2026: A detailed plan for a double-decker flyover at Laxmi Chowk in Hinjawadi has been prepared to address traffic congestion near the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. However, funding and responsibility for executing the approximately ₹300-crore project are yet to be finalised.

The project was initially planned as a single-level flyover. Following directions from then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the design was revised to include a double-decker structure.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted the detailed project report to the District Collector’s office. The proposal considers traffic approaching the junction from three directions and includes a grade separator, a Y-shaped flyover and an underground passage. One of four traffic management options studied has been selected.

Under the proposed plan, vehicles coming from Bhoomkar Chowk will use the flyover to travel towards Kasarsai and Hinjawadi IT Park. Vehicles travelling from the IT Park towards Bhoomkar Chowk will use the underground passage.

The arrangement is expected to reduce conflicts between traffic moving in different directions and improve movement through the busy junction. Laxmi Chowk experiences heavy congestion, particularly during morning and evening peak hours, affecting IT employees, local residents and other commuters.

Although the design is ready, the project’s financial and administrative responsibilities remain unresolved. Since the roads involved fall under different government agencies, the authorities must decide which department will provide funds and which agency will undertake construction.

The state government will take the final decision. “The detailed project report for the flyover has been prepared and submitted to the District Collector’s office. Further action will be taken after the necessary decisions are made,” said Bharatkumar Baviskar, Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department.

The administration plans to complete land acquisition by December and hand over the required land to the concerned departments.

Construction is likely to require traffic diversions around Laxmi Chowk. Authorities will have to assess the capacity of alternative roads and determine whether they can handle the additional traffic before finalising the diversion plan.

The project’s progress now depends on decisions regarding funding, construction responsibility and the availability of land.
