Pune, 25 February 2026: Police have launched a strong crackdown against Bullet motorcycles fitted with illegal modified silencers that create loud, firecracker-like sounds. In Kharadi, action was taken against 45 riders, and the seized silencers were publicly destroyed using a bulldozer.
According to police, several complaints were received from residents about the disturbing noise caused by modified silencers. The sound was reportedly causing inconvenience to locals, particularly senior citizens.
Many riders had replaced the original silencers of their Royal Enfield motorcycles with altered versions designed to produce loud cracking sounds.
Following a special enforcement drive, police detained 45 riders in Kharadi and confiscated the modified silencers. The seized equipment was later crushed under a bulldozer as a warning against such violations.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner Somay Munde and Assistant Commissioner Pranjali Sonawane. The team was led by Senior Inspector Sanjay Chavan and Sub-Inspector Rahul Kolpe.
Police officials stated that strict action will continue against riders modifying silencers and creating noise pollution. They also warned that garage owners and shopkeepers selling such illegal silencers will face criminal cases. Citizens have been urged to report vehicles fitted with such modifications.
Meanwhile, similar action was taken in Wagholi, where nine Bullet riders were penalised for using noisy modified silencers. Assistant Inspector Rahul Kolambikar said that in the past few days, the traffic department in Wagholi has carried out over 200 actions against violations including modified silencers, triple-seat riding, no-entry breaches and drunk driving.
