Pune, 15 October 2025: An officer from the Kondhwa police was detained by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking a bribe of ₹5,000 to refrain from filing an electricity theft case. On Tuesday, the court approved two days of police custody for him.

The individual who filed the complaint went to the Kondhwa police station following an electricity theft charge against them. The investigation uncovered that 34-year-old officer Somnath Bapu Maharan from Shewalwadi had requested ₹10,000 to dismiss the case.

Additional investigation revealed that Yuvraj Krishna Farande, a 59-year-old retired police sub-inspector, had supported Maharan in this action. As a result of these discoveries, both officers face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The operation was executed by a team headed by Assistant Commissioner Neeta Misal and Inspector Asavari Shedge, with oversight from Police Commissioner Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional Superintendent Ajit Patil.
