Pune, July 7: Heavy rain continued to lash Pune city, its suburbs and the district's ghat regions until Tuesday morning, with the hill station of Lonavala recording an extraordinary 1,290 mm of rainfall in just 48 hours. Of this, 620 mm fell in the last 24 hours alone, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing monsoon spell.
Pune city has also witnessed relentless rainfall, with cumulative July rainfall reaching 309.1 mm in the first week of the month. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this makes July 2026 the fourth wettest July since 2014, behind 2024 (394 mm), 2022 (386.2 mm) and 2019 (369.1 mm).
IMD data shows that Pune city and surrounding areas experienced heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, causing waterlogging on major roads and in low-lying areas.
By 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Chinchwad recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 268 mm, marking the second consecutive day it received more than 200 mm of rain.

Officials said Pashan has likely recorded over 100 mm of rainfall on two consecutive days in July for the first time, making it a potentially historic event.
The IMD said Pune has already received nearly 50% of its average monsoon rainfall this season. Weather data also points to a new trend, with Pune recording more than 300 mm of rainfall in July every alternate year since 2022.
The ghat sections of Pune district and nearby areas continued to receive intense rainfall for the second straight day.
