Pune, 7th July 2025: A major fault in the underground high-voltage power transmission system has plunged several parts of Hinjawadi and nearby areas into darkness since Sunday afternoon. The disruption was caused by a serious malfunction in MahaTransco’s 220kV Infosys to 220kV Pegasus extra high voltage underground transmission line, which failed while electricity supply was being restored after scheduled maintenance work.

MahaTransco had initially carried out a planned shutdown between 11 AM and 1 PM on Sunday for routine repair work. However, while resuming operations post-maintenance around 2:10 PM, both high-voltage cables suffered a significant breakdown. As a result, power supply to 91 high-voltage consumers and nearly 12,000 low-voltage residential users came to a sudden halt.

The outage has impacted key IT and industrial areas including MIDC Hinjawadi, Wipro Circle, Raisoni Park, and major companies such as Infosys, Nextra, and Dohler. Over 25 feeder lines connected to crucial corporate hubs and residential zones were disrupted. Residents in housing societies such as Fusion, Melange, TinselTown, Koral, 32 Pinewoods, and many others in Bhoirwadi have been left without electricity for over 24 hours, with more than 3,000 residents affected.

MSEDCL (MahaVitaran) and MahaTransco officials are working continuously to reroute the load and minimise disruption. More than 63MW of supply is being diverted through alternate paths. While senior engineers and field teams are on the ground, authorities have stated that full restoration of the faulty underground lines may take 3 to 4 days. Until then, rotational load-shedding may be carried out in some areas.

Officials said priority is being given to restore domestic power supply first. However, given the complexity of the fault, some societies may continue to experience outages over the next few days. Consumers have been requested to cooperate, while teams remain on-site round-the-clock to resolve the issue and restore normalcy.
