Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam verified that the passport revocation was a component of the continuous measures against Ghaywal, who faces charges in multiple grave crimes such as murder, extortion, and organized crime.

Law enforcement increased their efforts after Ghaywal's gang members reportedly shot at a man and assaulted a student with bladed weapons during a road rage incident in Kothrud on September 17. Two distinct FIRs were filed, and the police applied the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against him and his accomplices.

Although several members of his gang have been apprehended, Ghaywal is still on the run. In a recent petition to the Bombay High Court, he asserted that he left from India on September 9, just days before the Kothrud shooting incident, and alleged that the police had wrongfully accused him.

Investigations revealed that Ghaywal obtained his passport by providing false information. Reports indicate that he applied for a fast-tracked passport in 2019 at the Pune office, using an address in Ahilyanagar (formerly Ahmednagar). When the police could not locate him at the specified address, they marked him as 'not available,' yet a passport was still issued in January 2020.

It is believed that Ghaywal used this passport to travel to London and Switzerland. Authorities discovered that he altered his name to 'Gaiwal' on the passport to hide his identity. He did not hand over his passport as required by the court during his bail in 2022.
