Pune, 25 March 2026: In a significant move aimed at improving accessibility and affordability in public transport, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a 50 per cent fare concession for senior citizens using Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) services. The proposal was presented as part of the PMC Budget 2026–27.
The decision is expected to provide major financial relief to elderly commuters who rely heavily on public transport for their daily travel. The concession will be applicable across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, making commuting easier and more affordable for senior citizens.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to promote the use of public transport while supporting vulnerable sections of society with targeted benefits.
Alongside this, the PMC has also introduced a series of initiatives focused on women’s safety, empowerment, and overall development under the same budget.
The civic body has announced a 50 per cent property tax concession for properties registered in the name of women, aiming to encourage ownership and financial independence. To support women entrepreneurs, a dedicated convention center will be developed.
In addition, PMC schools will include special ‘Pink Rooms’ or ‘Sakhi Rooms’ for girls, creating safer and more supportive spaces within educational institutions. The administration also plans to set up 100 modern and free public toilets exclusively for women across the city.
These combined measures reflect PMC’s focus on building a more inclusive city by addressing the needs of both senior citizens and women through practical and impactful policy decisions.
