Pune, 30 December 2025: The nomination process of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections gathered pace on Monday, with 694 nomination papers filed in a single day across the city. This sudden surge came after just 48 nominations were filed over the previous six days, putting significant pressure on the election administration.
Candidates arrived at ward offices with large groups of supporters, turning the filing process into visible shows of strength. Officials expect an even bigger rush on December 30, the final day for filing nominations.
According to the civic administration, the highest number of nominations were filed at Nagar Road–Vadgaonsheri (88), followed by Bibwewadi (72), Yerwada–Kalas–Dhanori (69), and Hadapsar–Mundhwa (63). Other areas also saw steady activity, reflecting a citywide spike in political mobilisation.
Form sales also rose sharply, with 1,449 forms sold on Monday alone, taking the total sales to over 11,000 so far. The increase is largely due to political parties delaying the announcement of their official candidates.
Although the BJP is said to have finalised around 100 candidates, the list has not been made public. Other parties, including the Congress, both factions of the NCP, both Shiv Sena groups, MNS, and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, have also not released their candidate lists.
To avoid last-minute uncertainty, many aspirants have filed nominations in advance. Some, anticipating denial of party tickets, have opted to file as independent candidates, signalling the possibility of rebel contests.
