Pune, 1st July 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the deadline for availing 5% to 10% discount on full property tax payments till July 7, 2025. The decision came after technical glitches in the civic body's online payment system prevented many citizens from paying their dues on time.
On the original deadline of June 30, thousands of citizens tried to pay their taxes through PMC's official portal. However, the system crashed due to high traffic, leaving users frustrated. As online payments failed, citizens rushed to civic amenities centres, including the main office, leading to long queues and chaos at multiple locations across the city.
PMC had launched the discount scheme from May 1 instead of April 1 this year, due to delays in generating bills for newly merged 23 villages and properties with 40% concession. Despite the delayed start, the response was strong. From May 1 to June 30, over 7,10,553 property holders paid ₹1,244.50 crore, a significant contribution to PMC’s revenue.
Considering the inconvenience caused and the possibility of financial penalties for non-payment, PMC announced an extension of the deadline. Avinash Sakpal, Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, stated, “Due to issues faced while paying property tax, we are extending the discount deadline till July 7. Citizens can pay online or at PMC civic centres.”
To assist citizens further, all PMC civic amenities centres will remain open from 10 am to 4 pm daily until the new deadline. The administration has appealed to taxpayers to avoid last-minute payments and use the extended period to complete their transactions smoothly. System upgrades are also underway to prevent future technical failures.
