The suspensions were ordered on April 10 after thousands of fish died in Pashan Lake due to polluted water. During a visit to the lake, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram reportedly found discrepancies between the actual situation and the information provided by officials.

Following the incident, Executive Engineers Ajaykumar Vayase and Anilkumar Kadu, along with Divisional Health Inspector Vijay Bhoir and Health Inspector Vinayak Chopde, were suspended. The PMC had also ordered departmental inquiries against all four officials, and the action had triggered considerable discussion within the civic administration.

In a separate case, Superintendent and Acting Administrative Officer Yogita Jaibhay from the General Administration Department was suspended over alleged irregularities linked to compassionate appointments.

The administration had found that proposals were placed for administrative approval without being presented before the committee as required under Lad Page Committee recommendations. A departmental inquiry had also been initiated against her.

At the time, the strong action taken by the Municipal Commissioner and Additional Commissioner Prajit Nair had sent a clear message within the PMC administration about accountability and discipline. Several officials had reportedly become cautious following the suspensions.
