The move comes against the backdrop of increasing fuel prices due to the tense situation in West Asia. Following the Prime Minister’s call for responsible fuel usage, several state ministers had already reduced the size of their official vehicle convoys. PMC has now taken similar steps at the administrative level.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair on Wednesday issued instructions asking officials and staff to minimize the use of private and official vehicles wherever possible. Employees have been encouraged to use Metro services, local trains, railways, PMPML buses and Maharashtra State Transport buses for official travel.

PMC has also advised officials to adopt carpooling during site visits and field inspections to reduce vehicle usage. For travel related to meetings at Mantralaya, the High Court or other official destinations, officers have specifically been asked to prefer trains and ST buses.

In addition, the civic administration has urged departments to conduct meetings, training sessions and discussions online whenever possible instead of organizing them physically.
