Pune, 1st July 2025: Facing growing public anger over worsening infrastructure in Pune’s IT hub Hinjawadi, Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), conducted a site inspection on Monday.

Residents have blamed PMRDA, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and local gram panchayats for issues like traffic congestion, pothole-ridden roads, waterlogging, and irregular water supply. Many are now demanding that Hinjawadi be brought under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for better management.

During the visit, Dr. Mhase focused on the long-delayed Wipro Circle to Marunji road, a key 2.5 km stretch started in 2022 but stuck due to land disputes. Although over 2 km of the road is complete, the remaining 300 meters remain unfinished, blocked by land ownership claims and local opposition. This incomplete road has worsened traffic congestion towards Bhumkar Chowk and Pimpri-Chinchwad, residents say.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Mhase assured, “Work on the remaining 300 meters will begin tomorrow with police presence. It will be completed in eight days. A GSB-level road will be constructed, and all roadside encroachments, including tea stalls, will be cleared. Those claiming land rights must show legal documents, or strict action will follow for obstructing public work.”

Dr. Mhase also acknowledged that Hinjawadi faces multiple civic challenges, not just road issues. “The main cause of waterlogging is blocked natural drains. Some of it is due to the ongoing Metro construction. We’ve already identified 15 problem areas and instructed the responsible agencies to act 15 days ago,” he said.

He added that stop-work notices have been issued to 12 developers and companies, and FIRs will be filed if further non-compliance occurs.

Even as authorities scramble to address the problems, local residents continue to push for a long-term solution. Many believe that merging Hinjawadi into PCMC limits is the only way to ensure better civic services and coordinated infrastructure development.
