Pune, April 29: The Pune police have intensified their sustained crackdown on foreign nationals illegally staying in the city’s central pockets, with a focused enforcement drive across the Faraskhana and Samarth police station jurisdictions under Zone I.
Over the past two years, 57 Bangladeshi women have been deported to their home country after completion of due legal procedures, as part of an ongoing operation targeting undocumented foreign residents.
Investigations in earlier cases have indicated that Bangladeshi nationals were found residing in Pune either in search of employment opportunities or through suspected illegal infiltration routes. Following these findings, police have launched systematic verification and tracing drives to identify individuals without valid documentation.
According to official figures, Pune Police’s Zone I has taken action against a total of 89 Bangladeshi women between 2025 and April 2026.
Faraskhana police station, which covers a densely populated central belt of the city, has emerged as the primary enforcement zone. In 2025, 16 women were deported from its jurisdiction, while one was deported from Samarth police station limits.
The enforcement push intensified in 2026. So far this year, 35 women have been deported from Faraskhana, and five from Samarth, while 32 others have been placed in observation homes pending further proceedings.
Notably, no cases involving Bangladeshi nationals have been reported from Khadak, Vishrambaug, Deccan, or Shivajinagar police station areas during the last two years.

Police officials stated that illegal foreign residency is being treated as a sensitive security concern, prompting heightened surveillance across Zone I. Regular checks are being carried out in hotels, lodges, and densely populated areas.
“From a security standpoint, illegal stay of foreign nationals is a matter of concern. Accordingly, specific instructions have been issued to all police stations in Zone I. Continuous search operations are being conducted in hotels, lodges, and congested localities,” said Krishikesh Rawale, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I.
