Ahead of the launch of Pune Metro Line 3, Pune IT City Metro Rail Corporation (PITCMRL) has installed a 60-metre-long foot over bridge (FOB) at the upcoming Wakad Metro Station. The structure was erected late on Monday, June 29, during a carefully planned operation at one of Pune's busiest traffic junctions.

The new structure connects the Wakad Metro Station to the opposite side of the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-48), creating a dedicated crossing for pedestrians and improving access to the upcoming metro corridor. The bridge will remain open to the general public free of cost and can be used independently of the Metro system.

The installation is expected to improve pedestrian safety and strengthen last-mile connectivity in Wakad, a rapidly growing residential and commercial hub that also serves as a key gateway between Pune and Mumbai.

Improving Connectivity at Wakad

Wakad Chowk is one of Pune's busiest transit hubs, serving intercity buses, shared cabs and commuters travelling to the Hinjawadi IT corridor. The new foot over bridge is expected to improve pedestrian safety and ease access across the busy highway.

To minimise disruption, PITCMRL installed the bridge during late-night hours over two days. The work comes as Wakad Metro Station nears completion, with finishing works and station signages already in place.

Metro Line 3 Nears Launch

Wakad is expected to be one of the busiest stations on the 23.3-km Metro Line 3 corridor connecting Hinjawadi and Civil Court. Located at a key highway junction, the station is being developed as a multimodal transit hub with improved pedestrian and last-mile connectivity.

The metro line 3 has already completed end-to-end trial runs and is now in its final stages before commercial operations. The first phase, covering the 13.3-km stretch between Maan and the R. K. Laxman Museum, will open first, with the line later extending to District Court for integration with the Maha Metro network.
