Pune, 20 December 2025: City is witnessing a sharp decline in air quality, especially in densely populated parts of the city. According to available data, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has consistently been recorded between 180 and 300, placing it in the poor, very poor, and severe categories.
Areas such as Model Colony, Shivajinagar, Lohgaon, Karve Road, Katraj, and Kothrud have reported worsening air conditions.
Officials have attributed the rising pollution levels to heavy traffic congestion, high vehicle density, and compact residential zones. These factors have significantly increased emissions, raising health concerns for residents, particularly children and senior citizens.
Meanwhile, dense fog disrupted flight operations at Pune airport on Thursday. Airport authorities confirmed that four flights were cancelled, including two due to poor visibility caused by fog. The sudden cancellations caused inconvenience to passengers, many of whom were informed at the last moment.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions as weather conditions and pollution levels continue to pose challenges for both daily life and travel in the city.
