Pune, 9th February 2026: International travellers flying in and out of Pune Airport will soon get relief from long immigration queues. The airport is set to introduce the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP), a modern, technology-driven system aimed at speeding up immigration clearance without compromising security.

Currently, passengers often spend considerable time at immigration counters answering routine questions. With the new system, this process will be largely automated. The initiative, rolled out by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs at major airports across India, is expected to become operational at Pune Airport soon.

An immigration official said, “A proposal has been sent, and the facility will be introduced shortly as part of the ministry’s flagship programme.”

The FTI-TTP works on advanced facial recognition technology. During registration, a traveller’s facial image and fingerprints are digitally stored in a secure database. Upon arrival or departure, the passenger places an e-passport on the scanner at an automated e-gate.

High-definition cameras match the live image with passport chip data and the central database. If the match is successful, the gate opens automatically.

The entire verification takes around 30 seconds and is completed only when the system confirms a near-perfect match. The platform is directly linked with national immigration and foreigner tracking databases, enabling instant checks for criminal records or travel restrictions.

“Security checks that earlier took minutes are now completed in seconds, without any compromise on safety,” the official added.

Indian passport holders and eligible overseas citizens of Indian origin can avail of this facility. Interested travellers must register on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ portal. After security verification, they are granted trusted traveller status for a period of five years, allowing faster and smoother international travel through Pune Airport.
