Pune, 3rd October 2026: Pune Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a woman passenger arriving from Bangkok and seized hashish worth approximately ₹1 crore at Pune International Airport on Thursday (October 1). The drugs, weighing 1.243 kg, were concealed in branded cosmetic containers to evade detection.
The woman arrived at Lohegaon Airport on an Air India Express flight from Bangkok. Acting on suspicion of her movements, officials from the Air Intelligence Unit of Pune Customs intercepted her and searched her baggage.
During the inspection, officials discovered a suspicious wax-like substance hidden inside three commercial cosmetic containers. The containers were being used to conceal the narcotics and avoid scrutiny by security agencies.
Officials tested the recovered substance using a drug detection kit, which confirmed that it was hashish (cannabis resin). The seized consignment weighed 1.243 kg and has an estimated international market value of ₹1 crore.
Following the seizure, Customs officials arrested the woman and confiscated the contraband. The operation was conducted jointly by Pune Customs and the DRI.
Investigators are now examining whether an international drug trafficking network was involved in the smuggling operation. They are also trying to establish who was supposed to receive the consignment and whether the woman had links to a larger trafficking network.
