Pune, 15 April 2026: The runway recarpeting work at Pune Airport is now expected to be pushed to the post-monsoon period, as authorities plan to carry it out only during designated NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) windows. This approach is aimed at ensuring that passenger flight services continue without disruption.
The work was initially scheduled to begin in April. However, even midway through the month, no progress has been made. With a surge in passenger traffic during the summer season, airlines strongly opposed any suspension of services, prompting authorities to reconsider the timeline.
Taking this into account, the Indian Air Force has decided that the runway maintenance will be carried out strictly during NOTAM periods, specific time slots when flight operations are temporarily restricted. A similar delay has also been observed at Srinagar Airport due to comparable reasons.
Pune Airport handles both fighter and civilian aircraft operations. Earlier, there were plans to shut the runway temporarily for expansion and maintenance work. However, to avoid inconvenience to passengers, the strategy has now shifted to conducting the work in phases during limited operational downtimes.
“Discussions are ongoing at the senior level regarding the runway work. The exact start date cannot be confirmed yet, but it will be carried out during NOTAM periods,” said airport director Santosh Dhoke.
A NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) is an official, time-sensitive notification issued by aviation authorities to inform pilots and airport personnel about temporary changes, hazards, or restrictions in airspace or airport operations.
