Pune Airport is set to face temporary disruption in flight operations due to runway maintenance plan by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The airport, which handles both civil and military traffic, will undergo recarpeting work, though the exact schedule is yet to be officially announced.
Along with Pune, three other airports, Jodhpur, Srinagar, and Adampur Air Base, will also see temporary shutdowns in phases this year. These closures are part of routine but critical maintenance required to ensure that runways meet the stringent operational standards needed for fighter jets and defence aircraft.
The first closure will begin at Jodhpur Airport from March 29 to April 27, during which airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have already suspended bookings.
Srinagar Airport will later witness staggered shutdowns, remaining closed on weekends between August and mid-October, followed by a complete shutdown from October 16 to November 5.
While Pune’s exact closure dates are awaited, passengers are advised to stay alert for updates as disruptions are expected once the schedule is finalised. Meanwhile, Adampur Air Base in Punjab is likely to undergo one of the longest closures, reportedly lasting up to eight months towards the end of the year.
These airports are strategically important due to their proximity to sensitive border areas and dual usage for civil and military operations. Regular runway maintenance is crucial to support the high-performance requirements of Air Force operations, which in turn impacts commercial flight schedules.
