Metro Station Coverage

The Pune Metro line in Pimpri-Chinchwad launched in 2016, with operations starting on the Pimpri–Dapodi stretch on March 6, 2022. Currently, six stations—Pimpri, Sant Tukaramnagar, Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, and Dapodi—are operational.

The Pimpri–Nigdi extension will add four stations: Chinchwad, Akurdi, Tilak Chowk, and Bhakti-Shakti Chowk. Wakad station on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar route under PMRDA also falls within PCMC limits. In total, 11 station areas will be developed, with the 500-metre radius around each designated as a TOD Zone.

Local Area Plan Under UDCPR Rules

The Local Area Plan (LAP) will be prepared under the Unified Development Control and Promotion Rules (UDCPR). A Gujarat-based firm has been contracted to survey all 11 station areas.

The strategy aims to tackle traffic congestion, enhance both pedestrian and vehicle flow, and boost the quality of life for residents. It will also establish zoning rules and design standards. Developers in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas will need special approvals and must ensure at least nine meters of open space in front of buildings for parking.
