The Maharashtra Transport Department had instructed these companies to display government-approved fares on their apps. However, according to labour representatives, the directive has largely been ignored, resulting in confusion and conflicts during rides.

The Pune Regional Transport Authority (RTO) has already fixed fare rates for taxis and rickshaws. As per the current structure effective from January 1, 2024, air-conditioned taxis are charged at ₹37 per kilometre, while non-AC taxis are priced at ₹25 per kilometre.

While local drivers are expected to follow these rates, aggregators often show different fares on their platforms.

This mismatch between app-displayed fares and official rates has led to frequent arguments, and in some cases, even physical altercations between passengers and drivers. Labour leaders have held cab companies responsible for these incidents.

Dr. Keshav Kshirsagar, President of Maharashtra Kamgar Sabha, warned that if aggregators continue to ignore government norms, a strict 'Only Meter' campaign will be launched soon.

“Cab companies display fares on their apps that differ from the government-approved rates. This creates confusion and leads to disputes between drivers and passengers. Under the ‘Only Meter’ campaign, only RTO-approved fares will be followed through meters, ensuring clarity and avoiding conflicts.”

He added that the campaign aims to enforce uniform pricing and restore transparency in the system, reducing tension between commuters and drivers.
