In a surprising turn of events, a couple in Pune, Maharashtra, decided to end their marriage just 24 hours after their wedding. Despite being in a relationship for over two years, the couple cited serious differences that emerged shortly after the celebrations, leading to the swift legal separation.
According to their divorce lawyer, the couple, who had been in a romantic relationship, were acquainted for two to three years before choosing to marry. The woman is a doctor, and the man is an engineer. They faced conflicts regarding their living arrangements and were unable to reach a consensus on the matter.
"The marriage was a love marriage, and the couple had known each other for two to three years prior to tying the knot. After the wedding, the husband informed the wife that he works on a ship and could not specify when or where he would be posted or for how long he would be away," the advocate said.
Advocate Rani Sonawane, who handled the case, explained that the couple's deep ideological differences led to their decision to separate swiftly, with no allegations of violence or criminal behavior. The divorce was finalized by mutual consent, a rare outcome in India where such cases often take years to resolve. Remarkably, the couple began living separately the day after their wedding.
She mentioned that the couple considered the unstable living situation and mutually decided that separating was the best course of action. "The court delivered its decision after considering the Supreme Court's guidelines applicable in such cases," Advocate Sonawane said. She was also surprised that such an important matter was not addressed during the two-year relationship they had before getting married.
