

Pune, 11th June 2026: A case has been registered against nine people, including a 27-year-old man, for allegedly conducting and facilitating the child marriage of a 14-year-old girl in Kharadi. The action was taken after child welfare authorities uncovered the incident during an investigation.
According to police, the girl, who was 14 years and five months old at the time, was married to the accused on March 28 last year. The ceremony was reportedly attended by members of both families and several relatives.
The matter came to light after the District Women and Child Development Office received information about the marriage. Following the alert, volunteers from Child Helpline and officials from the District Child Protection Unit conducted an inquiry.
The investigation found that the girl's age was known to the families involved, yet the marriage was carried out. Based on the findings, Kharadi Police registered a case under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act against the husband, his mother, brother, and other relatives, taking the total number of accused to nine.
