Pune, 17 April 2026: Director General of Police Sadanand Date held an online review meeting with Pune City Police to assess the law and order situation, rising cybercrime cases, juvenile offences and traffic-related challenges. The meeting focused on improving investigation efficiency and increasing conviction rates across cases.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma and all Deputy Commissioners of Police attended the meeting via video conferencing. Officials discussed evolving crime patterns, emerging trends and measures needed to reduce the backlog of pending cases.

Date instructed officers to accelerate the pace of investigations and ensure better coordination among departments to strengthen the overall criminal justice process. He stressed the importance of improving conviction rates through stronger evidence collection and timely case handling.

Addressing the rise in juvenile offences, he highlighted the need to go beyond legal action and focus on rehabilitation. He directed officials to build effective systems involving counselling, education and support from social organizations to help reintegrate minors into society.

He also urged the police to remain vigilant in maintaining law and order and to strengthen systems that provide quick assistance to citizens. Efforts should be made to build a more trustworthy and sensitive image of the police among the public, he said.

Following the recent addition of two new zones, Pune Police now operates across seven divisions. Date reviewed the functioning of each zone separately, gathering inputs from Deputy Commissioners on local challenges, manpower requirements and investigation hurdles.

He also asked officers about operational difficulties and assured support to improve implementation and effectiveness across the city.
