Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) is set to conduct another trial of electric double-decker buses in the city, months after an earlier pilot. The fresh trial will begin on July 21 across 10 routes, with a focus on corridors that currently do not have Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) or Metro connectivity.

Among the routes selected for the trial are Hadapsar–Wagholi and Hadapsar–Swargate.

The objective of the exercise is to assess the feasibility of operating double-decker buses in areas without BRT or Metro services. Authorities will evaluate factors such as road width, flyover clearances, tree branches, overhead power lines, and overall traffic conditions to determine whether the buses can operate safely and efficiently.

The trial will also measure passenger response and the operational performance of the buses before any decision is taken on a wider rollout.
