Pune, 13 March 2026: A fire broke out in dry branches and leaves piled up along the wall of Shaniwar Wada in Pune on Thursday afternoon, causing minor damage to the historic Narayan Gate.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm behind the fort, where a large quantity of dried tree branches and leaf litter had accumulated along the wall. The fire spread quickly through the dry material, creating concern near the historic structure.

After receiving information about the blaze, fire engines and a water tanker rushed to the spot. Firefighters from the Kasba Peth Fire Station managed to control the fire by spraying water and prevented it from spreading further.

“Dry branches and leaf litter accumulated near the wall caught fire. Our team responded immediately and brought the situation under control,” officials said.

The fire brigade said the exact cause of the fire is still unknown. Fortunately, the blaze was contained in time, preventing major damage to the historic Shaniwar Wada structure.
