Pune, 12th May 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to citizens to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel as tensions between Iran and the United States continue in West Asia.
The ongoing geopolitical situation has started impacting fuel supply chains across parts of the country, with visible effects now being seen in Pune.
Several petrol pumps in the city are facing a shortage of petrol and diesel due to limited supply from oil companies. Pump operators say they are receiving only one fuel tanker per day, which is insufficient to meet the daily demand.
As a result, many petrol pumps are exhausting their stock by evening and shutting operations earlier than usual.
The situation has caused inconvenience for commuters across the city. After sudden closures of fuel stations due to empty stock, many vehicle owners are being forced to travel from one petrol pump to another in search of fuel. In some areas, long queues have also been witnessed, particularly during office hours.
Petrol pump operators have also raised concerns over financial pressure caused by revised credit policies from oil companies. They claim that companies are now offering only one day of credit, making fuel procurement more difficult for pump owners already dealing with restricted supply.
A petrol pump operator said that although the distribution situation has improved slightly compared to the previous few days, the supply is still not enough to meet demand. He added that receiving only one tanker a day keeps fuel stock limited, forcing pumps to close early once the available supply is exhausted.
Pump operators have urged oil companies and the administration to take immediate steps to restore smooth fuel distribution and prevent further inconvenience to the public.
