Pune, 17th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a ₹2,634 crore land acquisition proposal for the proposed High Capacity Mass Transit Road (HCMT Road). The decision was taken at the Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday.
Land acquisition for the project will cover areas including Bopodi, Aundh, Bhamburde, Erandwane, Kothrud, Hingne, Parvati, Wanowrie, Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Vadgaonsheri, Lohegaon, Yerawada and Dhanori.
Around 4,98,390 square metres of land across 15 villages is expected to be acquired for the project. The estimated compensation for the land is ₹2,634 crore.
The Standing Committee also approved ₹1,088.50 crore for acquiring land required for the Inner Ring Road within PMC limits. Land will be acquired in Vadachi Wadi, Pisoli, Yewalewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Mangadewadi, Bhilarewadi, Ambegaon Khurd and Jambhulwadi. The project requires approximately 7,23,176 square metres of land.
With approvals for both projects, the PMC will take on a combined financial liability of approximately ₹3,722.50 crore towards land acquisition. Standing Committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the proposals were approved as part of the process required before they are forwarded to the state government.
The land acquisition is proposed under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, along with Section 126 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.
The projects received a fresh push following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on July 27, where officials were directed to speed up their implementation.
Subsequently, meetings chaired by PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi were held in August to expedite the land acquisition process. The PMC has submitted the HCMT Road land acquisition proposals to the district administration.
Before the proposals can be sent to the state government, they will require approval from the PMC General Body through the Standing Committee.
