Pune is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures rising sharply and causing widespread discomfort among residents. The scorching conditions have made it increasingly difficult for people to step outdoors, especially during afternoon hours, as the sun’s intensity continues to grow stronger each day.
According to data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of the city recorded extremely high temperatures on Sunday. Koregaon Park registered a maximum of 42.9°C, while Lohgaon followed closely at 42.7°C. Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8°C, along with a minimum of 24.7°C, marking the highest night temperature of the season so far.
The rising minimum temperature has added to the discomfort, as nights are no longer providing adequate relief from the daytime heat. This sustained heat is also being felt in rural areas surrounding Pune, where residents are facing similar challenges due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
Health concerns are also on the rise, with an increase in heat-related illnesses being observed. Authorities have advised citizens to take necessary precautions, including staying indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM, staying hydrated, and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours.
The weather department has cautioned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist over the next three days, with temperatures expected to rise further in some areas. With little to no rainfall predicted, residents are urged to remain alert and prioritize their health and safety during this period of extreme heat.
