Pune, 17th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has cleared ₹30.83 crore for acquiring land to construct a 30-metre-wide alternative access road to Lohegaon Airport.

The Standing Committee approved the proposal to acquire 14,629 square metres of land, paving the way for a new route after the existing defence road is closed as part of the Indian Air Force's airport expansion project.

At present, vehicles reach the airport through a 12-metre-wide road passing inside the defence establishment from the 509 Chowk side. However, this access road will be shut once the Indian Air Force completes the ongoing expansion and modernisation of the airport.

To avoid future traffic congestion and maintain smooth connectivity, the PMC will develop a wider 30-metre alternative road.

The civic body had earlier offered Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to affected landowners, but the proposal received no response. As a result, the land will now be acquired under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The acquisition will cover land from Survey Nos. 226, 236, 237, 238 and 239 at Lohegaon. Based on ready reckoner rates, the PMC has set aside ₹30.84 crore for the acquisition, while the final compensation will be decided by the Land Acquisition Officer.

The proposal for the 30-metre-wide road was originally approved by the PMC General Body in February 2020 and later received final approval after changes to the Development Plan were sanctioned by the state government.
