Pune, 5th August 2026: A shocking case of alleged child abuse has surfaced from Lohgaon, where a woman is accused of pouring Fevikwik into the mouth of her nine-month-old nephew following a family dispute. The infant suffered serious internal injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sassoon General Hospital.
According to police, complainant Altaf Nabi Sheikh (39), a resident of Kalwad Vasti in Lohgaon, lives in a joint family with his brother. The family had reportedly been facing frequent disputes over minor issues.
Police said that around noon on July 31, while Altaf was away at work, his sister-in-law, Saniya Sheikh, allegedly poured Fevikwik into the mouth of his nine-month-old son. The baby's mother, Zainab, noticed the incident and immediately informed her husband before rushing the child to Sassoon Hospital for emergency treatment.
The complaint states that when Zainab confronted Saniya about the incident, she allegedly threatened her with consequences if she reported the matter to anyone.
The FIR further alleges that two of Saniya's relatives from Kandivali, Mumbai, Riyaz Imam Halyal (48) and Haji Malang Sheikh, later visited Sassoon Hospital and allegedly threatened the family against approaching the police.
Based on Altaf Sheikh's complaint, Lohgaon Police have registered a case against Saniya Sheikh, Riyaz Imam Halyal and Haji Malang Sheikh on charges related to the incident and criminal intimidation.
Police said the infant remains under treatment in the ICU at Sassoon General Hospital and his condition is now improving. Further investigation into the case is underway.
