Pune is witnessing an unusual weather pattern this April, with cooler daytime temperatures and warmer nights following heavy rainfall in late March and early April. On April 5, the city recorded a maximum of 33.7°C at Shivajinagar, the lowest daytime high for April since 2016. Lohegaon saw 36.1°C, still below seasonal averages.
Typically a peak summer month, April 2026 began on a cooler note, with temperatures hovering near or below normal. Meteorologists attribute the dip to persistent cloud cover after record rainfall on April 2 and the influence of active weather systems over Maharashtra, which brought moisture from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, nights remain unusually warm. Minimum temperatures are above normal, with Shivajinagar at 20.5°C and Magarpatta reaching 22.5°C. Experts say lingering moisture and evening cloud cover are trapping heat near the surface, creating warmer, more humid nights.
As the weather systems move away from the region, clearer skies along with cooler northern winds are causing daytime temperatures to remain lower than usual. This pattern is expected to persist for the next few days, after which temperatures are likely to rise by 2–3°C.
Pune’s current mix of cool days and warm nights is atypical for April, reflecting the lasting impact of recent rainfall and shifting weather systems on the city.
