Pune: Man who attacked, blinded woman finally nabbed

A man who attacked and blinded a woman while trying to molest her after an argument in Shirur in Pune district some days ago was arrested

Pune: After seven days, Pune Rural Police on Monday arrested a 50-year-old man from Chakan Chowk from Shikrapur for allegedly inflicting serious injuries on the eyes of a 37-year-old woman in Shirur Tehsil after she resisted his molestation attempts.

The shocking incident took place on November 3 at Nhavara in Shirur Tehshil where a woman was molested and in an attempt to save herself from the accused the woman later lost vision in both eyes.

A case was registered at Shirur police station. Seven teams were formed for this matter. During the investigation, police received a tip-off that a suspect named Kundalik Bagade who had recently started working at a Chinese centre in the same village had shaved off his beard and hair before fleeing the area. The report prior to the disappearance matched with the details given by the victim.

Further tracing the movement of the suspect, a team of police found that he was present in Shrigonda Parner area of Ahmednagar. On Monday, a team from Shikrapur police station arrested Bagade from Chakan Chowk in Shikrapur.

Police investigation has revealed that on November 3, when the woman had stepped out of her house, Bagade had stopped to attend nature’s call. When the woman objected, the accussed tried to molest her and when she resisted, he allegedly perpetrated injuries in her eyes with a sharp weapon.

The investigation team was led by Pune (Rural) Superintendent of Police Dr Abhinav Deshmukh along with Additional District Superintendent of Police Milind Mohite, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rahul Dhas, Shirur Police Inspector Praveen Khanapure.
