Pune, 3rd March 2026: Metro expansion and improved airport connectivity dominated discussions as Union Minister and MP Murilidhar Mohol chaired a comprehensive review meeting on Pune’s ongoing and upcoming development projects.

Officials confirmed that work on the Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi Metro corridors will begin soon, while a practical route for Pune Airport Metro connectivity has been finalized after evaluating six options.

The meeting was attended by senior administrative officers, public representatives and civic officials. A total of 16 major projects crucial to Pune’s long-term growth were reviewed, with clear instructions issued to accelerate pending work.

Mohol directed officials to expedite the river improvement and rejuvenation works under the National River Conservation Program. He also asked authorities to complete the remaining components of the Equal Water Supply Scheme, including pending water storage tanks, pipelines and installation of water meters.

Rising pollution levels in the city were also discussed, with the minister calling for immediate corrective measures. He further instructed the administration to clear footpath encroachments to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow.

Cultural and memorial projects were also reviewed, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial at Chandani Chowk, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Memorial at Deccan Gymkhana, redevelopment of Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir, development of Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, and memorial works dedicated to G.D. Madgulkar and Lahuji Vastad. Officials were asked to ensure faster progress.

The Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro project, being implemented by PMRDA, has reached 94 percent completion. Authorities aim to complete 13 of the total 23 stations by the end of April.

Instructions were also given to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Khadakwasla to Hinjawadi Metro corridor.

Additionally, road widening and beautification work on the Yerwada Jail to Pune International Airport stretch and the Kalyani Nagar to Airport road will begin soon, with land acquisition to be undertaken where necessary. Discussions were also held on creating an alternative road around the airport to facilitate the proposed runway expansion.

“Pune is expanding rapidly and these projects are essential for the city’s future. All departments must work in coordination and complete the works within the stipulated timelines,” Mohol said.
