Pune, 27 November 2025: Central government has approved Phase-2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project, giving the approval to Line 4 (Kharadi–Khadakwasla) and Line 4A (Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug). This approval marks a significant step toward improving Pune's urban mobility and addressing the city’s growing traffic congestion.
Line 4 will run 25.52 km from Kharadi to Khadakwasla with 22 elevated stations, connecting major hubs such as Kharadi, Hadapsar, and Swargate before extending toward the city’s western side. Line 4A will add another 6.12 km with six elevated stations, linking Nal Stop to Warje and Manik Baug. Together, both corridors cover 31.64 km with a total of 28 stations.
The project has been estimated at ₹9,857.85 crore, and the target is to complete it within five years. Officials say this expansion will seamlessly link Pune’s eastern, central, and western regions, making daily travel faster and more convenient for commuters.
Commenting on the approval, MP Murlidhar Mohol said the decision is a welcome development for Pune. He noted that work on the existing metro routes is progressing, and the Shivajinagar–Hinjawadi line will also begin operations soon.
He added that the metro expansion, along with the approval of 1,000 new electric buses, will significantly help reduce the city’s traffic burden.
The new metro corridors are expected to give fresh momentum to Pune’s growth while improving connectivity across key residential, commercial, and employment clusters.
