Pune, 5th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to develop parking facilities at 31 out of 34 available amenity spaces located within a 500-metre radius of Metro stations in the city. The move aims to make Metro travel more convenient for commuters and encourage greater use of public transport.

Currently, three Metro corridors in the city are either operational or nearing completion. The Vanaz–Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad routes operated by MahaMetro are already functional and together serve around 1.5 to 2 lakh passengers daily.

Meanwhile, work on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor, being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), is in its final stages and expected to begin operations in the coming months.

Despite the increasing number of Metro users, many commuters face difficulties parking their private vehicles near stations. Due to the absence of designated parking areas, several two-wheelers are parked near stations or underneath Metro structures, often in no-parking zones, leading to vehicles being towed by traffic police and causing inconvenience to commuters.

Officials said the city administration is now planning to utilise available amenity spaces around Metro stations to create organised parking facilities. Out of 34 identified spaces, 31 locations will be developed as parking zones to support Metro commuters.

“Providing proper parking facilities near Metro stations is essential to increase Metro ridership. These parking spaces will allow citizens to safely park their vehicles and continue their journey by Metro, encouraging greater use of public transport,” officials said.
