Following the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections, only a one-line congratulatory resolution will be passed. No speeches will be made. A condolence resolution will then be moved, and the general body meeting will be adjourned. As a result, elections to the Standing Committee and other committees will not be conducted today.

The Standing Committee consists of 16 members, allocated according to party strength. Based on the current numbers, BJP is expected to secure 12 seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party may get three and Congress one.

Several BJP corporators, both senior and new, are in contention for Standing Committee membership, and names such as Shrinath Bhimale, Dheeraj Ghate, Anil Tingre, Rajendra Shilimkar, and Ajay Khedekar are being discussed for the post of Standing Committee chairperson.

There is keen interest among corporators to secure positions on the Standing Committee. Those who miss out may seek appointments to other committees such as the City Improvement Committee, Law Committee, Women and Child Welfare Committee, and Sports Committee. The final decision on committee members and chairpersons will be taken by the BJP leadership after a core committee meeting.

Speaking on the process, BJP group leader Ganesh Bidkar said, “After the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected, a brief congratulatory resolution will be passed. Due to the demise of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, a condolence resolution will follow and the general body meeting will be adjourned. The appointments to the Standing Committee and other committees will be taken up in the next meeting, which is likely on February 13. The party leadership will decide on committee members and chairpersons.”

As per the current strength, BJP dominates all major committees, including the Standing Committee, City Improvement Committee, Women and Child Welfare Committee, Sports Committee, and Law Committee, with NCP and Congress holding limited representation across these panels.
