Pune, 15 January 2026: Voting is underway for the Pune Municipal Elections 2025–26, but the voter turnout remained low in the early hours. Only 6.37% polling was recorded between 7.30 am and 9.30 am, prompting election authorities to appeal to citizens to step out and cast their votes.
The civic elections are being held across 41 wards of Pune, where 165 corporators will be elected. A total of 1,153 candidates are contesting, making this one of the most competitive municipal elections in recent years.
Pune has a total voter base of 35,52,637, including 18,32,789 male and 17,13,360 female voters. Polling is taking place at 4,011 polling stations across the city. Election officials said voting has been largely smooth, with good participation seen among senior citizens and first-time voters in the morning hours.
To ensure voter comfort, facilities such as drinking water, shaded waiting areas and proper queue management have been arranged at polling centres. Officials have urged all eligible voters to make use of these facilities and exercise their democratic right.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has appealed to citizens to come forward in large numbers and take part in deciding the city’s future through their vote.
