Pune, 12 February 2026: Newly elected Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has directed the civic administration to submit a comprehensive report on drainage cleaning, disaster management preparedness, and related infrastructure within three days.

The aim is to prevent flooding and ensure uninterrupted civic services during the rainy season.

Nagpure asked officials to urgently review pre-monsoon measures, including the disaster management plan and the progress of the Mula–Mutha river rejuvenation project. She said the administration must ensure that preparations are completed well in advance to avoid chaos during heavy rainfall.

Raising concerns over the quality of drain cleaning works, the Mayor noted that the civic body spends around ₹5 crore annually on pre-monsoon desilting, yet contractors often quote 30–40% lower rates and fail to deliver proper work. “This raises serious questions about accountability. That is why I intervened as early as February and instructed that all works be completed by April,” she said.

All major drains and stormwater lines in the city must be cleaned by April 30, Nagpure stressed, adding that no delays will be accepted. Zonal offices have been instructed to maintain daily progress reports and submit them to the Mayor’s office.

In view of the risk of flooding during intense rainfall, the administration has also been told to update the list of flood-prone ‘hotspots’ and ensure that pumping stations in these areas are fully operational. The Mayor will personally inspect these locations next week and has asked concerned officials to remain present during the visit.

Nagpure sought a detailed report within three days on the current status of the Mula–Mutha river improvement project and monsoon safety measures.

To prevent accidents caused by slippery roads during the rains, she said a final deadline should be fixed for granting permissions for new road excavations. “All ongoing works must be completed immediately and roads restored to their original condition,” she said, adding that a review meeting on these issues will be held soon.
