The Maharashtra Youth Congress has opposed the decision to lease Pune Metro coaches to the Patna Metro, citing the city's urgent need for expanded services.

Pune, 23 July 2025: The Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress has strongly opposed the decision to lease metro coaches from Pune Metro to the Patna Metro project. The party claims that while Pune urgently needs to enhance the frequency and capacity of its metro services, coaches reserved for the city are being diverted to Bihar for political gains ahead of the upcoming state elections.
According to Youth Congress General Secretary Prathamesh Abnave, the city’s public transport system is still developing and cannot afford to part with its essential infrastructure. He emphasized that Pune Metro is currently serving an average of 1.8 lakh passengers daily, with crowding on platforms and the upcoming expansion of routes making it critical to have reserve coaches on standby.
Abnave also questioned whether Pune’s elected representatives, including MPs, MLAs, and the Guardian Minister, were consulted before this decision was made. He alleged that the Maha Metro Rail Corporation is acting under political pressure and not in the interest of Pune’s commuters.
The Youth Congress has demanded immediate cancellation of the leasing deal and warned that protests would be launched if the decision is not rolled back.
