Pune, 30th September 2026: Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure met Okayama Governor Ryuta Ibaragi during her visit to Japan to mark 20 years of friendly relations between Pune and Okayama. The meeting focused on strengthening historical, cultural and industrial ties between the two cities and exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
During the meeting, Nagpure invited businesses from Okayama to invest in Pune, highlighting the city's established automobile, information technology and education sectors. She also proposed joint research initiatives involving Japanese companies in Ayurveda, modern agricultural technology, yoga and healthcare.
Nagpure assured the Okayama delegation that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) would provide the necessary infrastructure and support to Japanese companies interested in establishing businesses in Pune.
As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations, Nagpure invited Governor Ibaragi to visit Pune in November. She said the visit would provide an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and build on the longstanding relationship between the two cities.
The meeting was attended by Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair, City Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar, PMPML Director Ajay Khedkar, Vandana Bhimale and Sameer Khale of the Association of Friends of Japan.
