Pune, 16 January 2025: Voting for the 2025–26 civic elections in Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation concluded on Thursday with moderate voter participation.

Pune city recorded an overall turnout of 52.42%, while Pimpri-Chinchwad reported around 60% voting.

In Pune, voting continued beyond the scheduled time, with polling underway after 5.30 pm at more than 500 booths due to queues and local delays. Despite the extended hours, officials confirmed that the polling process remained orderly.

Peaceful Elections

Senior police officials said that voting in both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad was conducted peacefully. No major untoward incidents were reported across either municipal area, and security arrangements remained effective througout the day.

Vote Counting Today

According to the State Election Commission, counting of votes for PMC and PCMC, along with 27 other civic bodies across Maharashtra, will take place today, January 16. The counting process is scheduled to begin at 10 am.

All Initial exit poll trends are indicating an advantage for the Bharatiya Janata Party in both municipal corporations. In the 2017 elections, the BJP had emerged victorious in Pune as well as Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Previous Results

The previous Pune Municipal Corporation election was held on February 21, 2017, when the city recorded a turnout of 55.45%, with 1,090 candidates contesting the polls.

Pimpri-Chinchwad, which has a voter base of nearly 17.13 lakh, registered a turnout that was lower than the 2017 civic elections, when the city had recorded around 64–65% participation.

Today’s results are expected to clarify whether voter sentiment has shifted or remained consistent.
